dreaming...

We are trying to find a house to rent. Ryan's job here is temporary so we don't want to buy, but we keep hoping that we'll find something in our price range with a yard (right now we are in a townhome with a patio which is definitely a step up from our student life, but the boys and I would really benefit from a yard.) We've been looking at places for about a month now, but everything seems to have something that's just not right. Last night we went to look at a place and everything was looking great until we realized it had electric heat and a wood stove. It's been below zero in the mornings here for the past few days, so electric heat is definitely not an option and the wood stove just isn't something I want to deal with right now - not safe for the kids, messy, and much more work than just programming my thermometer! So, I came home frustrated again. And it's starting to get to the point where it's more trouble than it's worth. Maybe we should just stay here. So, instead of thinking about a new place, I decided to do a little virtual shopping today to sooth my soul.

First on the list, a new bed, one with some character and funk (it's the Noresund from Ikea):Second, new bedding - maybe something like this (photo from Domino Magazine):

And what we really need around here is some storage. Does anyone else fantasize about fantastic shelving like I do? It is so fun to dream...

Sorry the house doesn't look like it is going to work out. I hope you find something you like that's even better!

Hey, is leaking levee from New Orleans? Just curious, sensed a Hurricane Katrina refernce there. I want more storage and space too. We had a realtor out yesterday and will be listing soon but I have a feeling it will be a long process - maybe I should just do virtual shopping too.

I'm sure it will happen for you soon, Jessi. (And don't hate me -- I own those shelves and they are fabulous.)

I definitely feel for you. It's hard to rent. We got lucky and found a brand new house to rent, what a miracle! You'll work it out I'm sure.

I love your idea of virtual shopping. I might try that.

p.s. I definitely fantasize about shelving.

I love all three of those pictures, the bed, headboard, and shelves. I too love shelving. In one of our apartments we took the brown closet doors off, hung an ikea wire curtain "rod" and blue sheets for curtains. We didn't have anywhere else to put the doors, so we stood them behind our bed (thick blanket between it and the wall to prevent knocking), hung those 3m hooks and a texas flag quilt in the middle of it. I think there was a cowboy hat on the top corner of it too but I can't remember. Anyway it really jazzed up the room and was tons nicer than just getting a headboard or having nasty folding closet doors.

By the way, here in IF, a bit colder I think, in our house we have all electric. And I think our bills have been fabulous. Last month our electric was right at a hundred but that is much less than we ever paid in apartments in Rexburg, we use the heat more, and its 2000 sq ft with washer and dryer and lights that sometimes get left on for a long time, or children who open windows in january and mom takes a while to notice. So its not terrible.

But regardless, good luck with your search!

I LOVE the bed! I'm sorry about the house. If you lived closer you could share my yard. Ha! Ha! Well, the park out front anyway.

I just bought some shelving with Christmas money ... yeah ... A nice, simple bookshelf made of alder. I'm going to have my friend make doors (just the frame of them) and I'll put stained glass in the center .. we'll attach them to the bottom part of the shelving .... yeah more storage for the kitchen.

I have those bookcases, too. They have been perfect for the living room. And I have been admiring that bed, as well. I am just worried that we don't have room for a headboard.
We have electric heat and it has been fine. It's not quite as cold here as it is there, but it is snowing again today. Davis seems so far away...
